Connyak Paddle Descriptions The following descriptions are for the “usual routes” often taken on Connyak Paddles. Wind, weather and tides are important considerations in choosing a route and many alternate routes are available from these locations. It is suggested that the reader follow along with the narrative on a chart. All distances listed are approximate for the round trip and do not consider any “wandering” that would add to the distance.

Esker Point to West Harbor (Fisher's Island NY)

  • From the launch proceed South along Groton Long Point and continue South across Fisher’s Island Sound.
  • In the distance note three small islands (the Dumplings).
  • Proceed past them on their Easterly side, entering to explore West Harbor on Fisher’s Island.
  • Return to the Dumplings for a lunch stop.
  • Approximately 9 miles going straight out and back.
Note: The crossing to Fisher’s Island can be busy with boat traffic during the summer season, creating large boat wakes. Tidal movements may also require you to “ferry” to reach your intended destination.
