Connyak Paddle Descriptions The following descriptions are for the “usual routes” often taken on Connyak Paddles. Wind, weather and tides are important considerations in choosing a route and many alternate routes are available from these locations. It is suggested that the reader follow along with the narrative on a chart. All distances listed are approximate for the round trip and do not consider any “wandering” that would add to the distance.

Esker Point to Pine Island

  • From the launch proceed South out of Palmer Cove along the shore of Groton Long Point.
  • Turn West around the Point toward Mumford Cove.
  • Options here include exploration of Mumford Cove as well as the “Venice” canal.
  • Proceed West toward Bluff Point State Park.
  • Directly ahead (West) are two small islands. Paddle between them and go to the inside of the first (Pine Island).
  • There is a small beach that can accommodate several paddlers for lunch.
Note: Strong West winds can create conditions at the tip of Groton Long Point.
