If you're on dial-up and can't watch the video...

If you ever launch in surf, even tiny surf, It can twist your boat and you end up sitting in you kayak in the sand facing side-ways to the water. You try to turn your boat and the water hits you again and you are back in that position again. I've seen people go through this for minutes until someone goes down and turns them.

The gunnel pivot is just laying your boat over on it's side in the sand so you can quickly spin it into the right position facing the water. It's one of those things anyone can do but you never think of it when you need it.
