Events Calendar

This is a response to several recent threads so I put it all together and started a new thread.

I post the events on the event calendar. If you have any questions you can always email me directly. You can also send an email to "connyak" and I will also get it. And of course you can always post it on the bulletin board for all to see. The method I would prefer is to send an email directly to me with a subject header something like "A paddle for event calendar". That way I can easily file it, it is less likely that it won't end up in the spam file, and finally I know who to send an email to if I have any questions.

I never knew there was a link on the message board header to "Events". I'll have to investigate it further but from what I see right now it points to a different html page. The "Event Calendar" link on the home page is what I updated when I changed the calendar. I'll see what I can do to straighten that out so no matter what link you click on you get the "real" calendar and not an older verssion. But Jean is correct, follow the "Events" link from the home page and it will take you to the calendar.

As far as what is on the events calendar - it is whatever I am made aware of. At the last meeting I was given a rough schedule of events that Sheldon had put together. The event calendar now shows all these events briefly, e.g. date, paddle location and rating. I have been adding details to the paddles, click on the paddle name, the blue link, and that will take you a complete description of the paddle and the directions to the launch. I have done the calendar up to June and I will be doing the rest shortly.

Other events that have been added to the Events Calendar include the "Wednesday Night Practice Sessions" and the "Pool Sessions sponsored by Turner and Cheri". The practice sessions were added because Joy sent me an email with the information. The pool sessions were added to the calendar because of the message that Turner had posted on the bulletin board.

The paddles, or other events, posted on the calendar depend on someone stepping up to the plate and at least letting me know that you want something posted. Wayne stated that we are a "leaderless" paddle club. Posting a paddle doesn't mean that you have to lead it, or even show up for that matter. You are under no obligation to show up for your own paddle. Of course if this gets out of hand then we will have other problems. I know last year or the year before I received an email from someone who went to a posted paddle (one at Rainbow Reservoir) and no one else showed up. I think everyone else was down at the LI sound at another posted paddle.

Besides sending information for a posting on the calendar, you can also post a paddle on the bulletin board. Posting on the bulletin board is especially useful for last minute paddles. Any changes or cancellations to a scheduled paddle are also generally posted on the bulletin board.

Hope this explains everything. If you have any questions, or suggestions to make the calendar better, please send me an email.

Thanks, Brian.
