While it is good to plan ahead, it is possible to overanalyze. The Thames River is a navigable public water way. There is nothing along the way that should cause a reasonably attentive drunk speed boater to get shot. If you tend to yell out Allahu Akbar while paddling as fast as you can straight toward gunmen, you may want to restrain yourself, but beyond that it should not be a big deal.
