I've been a viewfinder user my whole life and never use the LCD on my SLR camera. When I first started taking pictures from my boat I thought the lack of a viewfinder was going really going to suck, and since that was what I was used to, at first it did. After a while though, I've come to prefer the LCD. Yes, it gets somewhat washed out in the sun, and yes, it can be difficult to compose a perfectly framed shot, but in bumpy water, if you let your arm go with the flow, I really don't notice a big difference in the camera shake department. Either way it can be a problem if you don't keep the shutter speed high. With a viewfinder, you're pretty much limited to the same old perspective every time. With the LCD, while still somewhat limited, you can hold the camera high, low, off to the side, over your shoulder etc. Most newer cameras have much brighter, clearer screens than the old ones did. I think most people are fine with them after the initial viewfinder withdrawl period. Dave, I do appreciate your clever solution, however.
