Elections and Voting for Dummies
Rather than write one of those books I will just highlight how things work.
No, you are not going to be electing or voting for dummies, although some wonder why anyone would volunteer to do anything without getting paid.
You can read the “sticky” note posting January 2012 Elections above for more information on the nominating process. Really, you need to nominate yourself. I won’t go into all the great benefits you get from being an officer, committee chair or member at large – let’s just say it carries a tremendous amount of prestige throughout the entire kayaking community and it will really make you feel good about yourself. Try to get your nominations in before Dec 26th. (Certain people may want to use the new PayPal feature and get their dues in right away. You need to be a paid up member to be an elected official - its one of those legal things that comes with incorporation.)
So far we have at least three people nominated for Members at Large, and of course the current officers (P, VP, Sec, Tres) on the ballot. If you really are interested in one of the top 4 don't hesitate to nominate yourself. There will be no mudslinging or dirty politics. You'll just be elected.
On or about Dec 30th the January 2012 Elections sticky note will be replaced with a Voting sticky note. If you read and follow the instructions you can vote online. Fill out the online form and click the submit button. You will need to fill in your name and email address on the form. The Nominating Committee / Election Committee will get the form, check that your dues are up-to-date and then tally your vote.
You can use the on line voting up until midnight, Jan 16.
The January meeting is Wednesday, Jan 18. (Check the Events Calendar for the meeting agenda and directions) If you attend the meeting then you can vote at the meeting. And, if you really must, you can even change your on line vote. You can also nominate yourself for a position at the January meeting. If you do, chances are you will have the job. The votes will be tallied and the new capos will take over. (No, not the fretboard kind.)
That’s it in a nutshell. If you over think things and have questions then by all means send an email to nominating@connyak.org
