: Expensive tape but I bought a 4" x 50' roll after Jim Rasmus posted his amazing repair story. It's got great adhesion and a lot nicer than the infamous Denzo tape. I cut the roll into 4.5' pieces in heat sealed bags. $6 each at the meeting. :
I used some of the stuff that Jim Rasmus had for field repairs and it worked great provided the repair area is dried off prior to application. I carry it in my repair kit but you may also want to consider carrying some paper towels and alcohol prep pads.
A kayaker and house builder from down south recently gave me some stuff called called GeoBond Roof Bonding Tape. The advantage of this tape is that it sticks when wet unlike the stuff that Jim had (I think it is called bitchathane). So with GeoBond the repair can be done on the water. I tried some on a wet, plastic kayak and it seemed to stick well. I have a piece on the bottom of my fiberglass kayak that I'm leaving on to see how it holds up which so far it has done quite well for a couple of months. Don't know where you can get the stuff locally but here is the link to the product on the manufacture's website:
The stuff only seems to be available in big rolls so a group purchase might be in order. I was told it was expensive but I have enough for now.
Good to investigate and test different stuff for field repairs and compare notes.
