Re: An Alternate to Level "0"
In Response To: An Alternate Level "0" ()

: Below is an alternate Level "0". I tried to write it in
: the spirit of Nick's other narratives, but instead of describing
: a hypothetical Level 0 paddle which is not likely to ever exist,
: this version attempts to describe what are already some of the
: most popular and well attended real-world events in all of
: ConnYak. I can't think of better way for the new sea kayaker to
: dip his or her toes into the ConnYak waters than to attend one
: of these friendly, laid back gatherings. The weekly Cedar Lake
: and Lake Wintergreen practices along with the two Club Picnics
: are popular, welcoming events and I believe worthy of their own
: level. Call this level "P" if you like, but I still
: believe that Level 0 would be describing an event, not a paddler
: and that "0" represents zero necessary skills, zero
: necessary experience in a zero stress environment. We're all
: adults here, I don't think anyone's self esteem is going to
: suffer too greatly by going with "0" or
: "ZERO".

Eric, I like your wording, with just Beth's "Introduction to Paddling" substituted for "Level Zero" which still grates on me.

: An Introduction to Paddling event is typically as much about socializing as it
: is about paddling. Usually taking the form of a practice
: session, picnic or similar event on calm, protected water, these
: gatherings are suitable for all paddlers of any skill level and
: are great way to get started as a sea kayaker. A few miles of
: paddling are most often accompanied by much floating around and
: talking as people practice various skills and assist each other
: with self learning. While ConnYak doesn’t provide formal
: instruction, there is much that can be learned in this laid-back
: environment.
