It's amazing how sensational the media try to make this look. Take a careful look at the distance of the kayak & surfboard from the whale in the video, and you'll realize that it's fairly far, maybe 50-100 feet. My past experiences with Pilot Whales in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia made me realize that they knew where I was at all times, and if they were inclined to cause harm they could have easily done so. Anyone who's foolish enough to invade their feeding grounds at prime feeding time is asking for trouble in California. Anyone else have any close encounters? I know some of you have been up to the Gaspe and Anticosti.
