: Hi Jim,

: The Explorer I had a few years ago was 59 when I bought it and 63
: when I sold it. I had a conversion with Tom from Maine Island
: Kayak (a long time hard core NDK dealer). He said his rental
: fleet of NDk kayaks gained a few pounds over the summer and then
: lost some or all this weight gain over the winter.

Hi Dave,
When I lived in Portland, Maine I stored my boat in a walk in basement. During the summer months it would become very humid there. I noticed that after getting into summer a bit, my boat would be noticeably heavier. During fall I would notice my boat getting lighter. So I agree that fiberglass will absorb quite a bit of water. My boat did become heavier over the years with fiberglass and gel coat repairs from trying to absorb rocks:)
