Carl, great photos!
A fabulous day Saturday.
The sudden darkening of the eclipsed sun from the curling waves overhead was quite intriguing.... but believe me when I tell you this, the impending green-room powerwash is a much softer landing than a fall on skis! :-)

: some of the shots, tuning up his new Rip on the inside break.
: Warming sunshine on Saturday but shoulder shredding off shore
: wind blasts at the first breaks both days. Had to work for every
: run. Rising up onto the crest is like entering the jetstream,
: face-on. Surf was especially rideable on Saturday - nothing
: scarry or bone rending or particularly suitable for the epic
: photo, just so striking to see the that special green/yellow
: glow of the near-to-breaking wave from the blacklighting of the
: low winter sun alongside the dazzling white of the surge and the
: brilliant blue sea/sky all round. We noted that running
: diagonally along the faces at the first break we would suddenly
: be in the dark, because the curling wave had eclipsed the sun
: just overhead. At that point, you either outran it or got folded
: up into the green room. Upside down or right side up or all
: places in between: it's all surfing. Doug Manfred and Doug
: Downey were also on the water but are not depicted.
