...from Matunuck last Friday and Saturday. That's Gerry Polinski,in some of the shots, tuning up his new Rip on the inside break. Warming sunshine on Saturday but shoulder shredding off shore wind blasts at the first breaks both days. Had to work for every run. Rising up onto the crest is like entering the jetstream, face-on. Surf was especially rideable on Saturday - nothing scarry or bone rending or particularly suitable for the epic photo, just so striking to see the that special green/yellow glow of the near-to-breaking wave from the blacklighting of the low winter sun alongside the dazzling white of the surge and the brilliant blue sea/sky all round. We noted that running diagonally along the faces at the first break we would suddenly be in the dark, because the curling wave had eclipsed the sun just overhead. At that point, you either outran it or got folded up into the green room. Upside down or right side up or all places in between: it's all surfing. Doug Manfred and Doug Downey were also on the water but are not depicted.
