Re: 8/7 Bluff Point Rescue Clinic

You're asking excellent questions. I know who it's for... it's to amuse ourselves. When we started it many years ago, we had an audience of beginners who wanted to learn these things. Times have changed and because of all the networking of skills, lake practice sessions etc. most club paddlers can do all the rescues and more. We used to do a lot of PR about it and I think we are just getting burnt out with those efforts. In the last several years we would often have 1 or two paddlers who didn't know any of this but mostly the experienced paddlers were there. I too haven't heard if we are having a flare demo which the DEP did a few times and that required CG notification and clearance with the airport. It seems now, if somebody really wants to learn some of these things, all they have to do is come to one of the various lake practice sessions And then there are some paddlers who just don't care about learning these things because they feel they are flat, warm water paddlers and safe in what they do. And perhaps they are right.
