Re: Lake Champlain Vt
In Response To: Lake Champlain Vt ()

Wayne,

There are lots of great options in that area for rereation. I often paddle the NY side of the lake across from Burlington around Willsboro Bay. In the bay there are spectacular 100 ft cliffs, bayou-like estuaries, great fishing and swimming, etc.

As a previous poster mentioned, on the main lake don't underestimate the potential for wind and waves. It is very similar to the ocean. A Northerly wind can gain over 100 miles of fetch before it hits the lake shore. On more than one occasion I have been paddling in waves over 4ft. Often the lake and bays are mill pond flat.

Do you have lodging sorted out yet? My folks rent a cottage on Willsboro Bay that is a spectacular deal. It has a sandy beach, private dock, etc. Call them if you are interested(518)-963-8661.

Champlain is a great destination. My wife, kids and I will be on the NY side in Willsboro Bay for our third time this summer starting on Thusday night.
Enjoy,
Jon
